Because of the increased use of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators, infection has become a complication with significant morbidity and mortality. It was a pleasure to speak with Dr Sean Pokorney (Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC) to find out his thoughts on mortality in patients with infections of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
