Heart International. 2019;13(2):7

Welcome to the winter 2019 issue of Heart International! I hope you will enjoy reading the selection of articles we have included in this edition. We open with a letter from my co-Editor-in-Chief, Dr Rajesh Davé, focusing on the recently forged partnership between the journal and the International Complex Cardiovascular Catheter Therapeutics (C3) conference. This partnership is certain to strengthen the journal and take it to the next level in its journey of maturation.

We then have two excellent reviews, one by Heradien et al. on renal denervation in high-risk patients with hypertension, and the other by Brieger et al. on drug-eluting stents, with a focus on the ultrathin Orsiro drug-eluting stent. These reviews are valuable not only for providing a useful historical perspective, but also for summarising the most contemporary data on the topics.

For original research, Chockalingam et al. characterise a variant of Takotsubo (or stress) cardiomyopathy, known as secondary stress cardiomyopathy, in a series of 18 consecutive patients with critical illness admitted to their hospital over a 2.5-year period. Shoemaker et al. examine the presence and magnitude of seasonal variation in daily physical activity in community-dwelling individuals with heart failure and implantable cardioverter defibrillator/cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices.

Finally, a case report by Uretsky et al. highlights the importance of pressure wire positioning when evaluating the significance of equivocal left main stenosis with fractional flow reserve measurement.

We are most grateful to the authors for submitting their work to the journal and to our Editorial Board and peer reviewers for ensuring that the published material is of the highest possible quality. We are currently welcoming submissions to our summer 2020 issue and we encourage any interested readers to submit original research, reviews, editorials, case reports and letters to the Editor. Submissions can be made through our online submission system at: or by contacting myself or the journal’s Associate Editor, Heather Hall (E:
